The Milton Chapter of the Harley-Davidson Owners
Groupâ (H.O.G.â) started collecting
pop tabs in the fall of 1993.
This is how it all began…
Our chapter was apporoached by a family (Robert’s
family) with the request of support for a wonderful charity. At the time we didn’t know very much about “Tabs
for Wheelchairs” but what we did know in our hearts was that it was for a good cause. Our involvement with this family
also got us associated with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 229 in Elora which runs this worthy program.
The first year (1993), our motorcycle run collected
over 800 pounds in pop tabs.
After such a successful start for this charity
ride, the chapter decided to adopt it as an annual event. Here we go again 18 years later, having collected over 30,000 pounds
opop tabs.
The volume of pop tabs collected through the Elora
Legion’s “Tabs for Wheelchair’s” has allowed the Legion to fund 1034 wheelchairs and counting.
When people heard about the Pop Tab Run for the
first time, they often said “But we have no pop tabs. Can we give cash instead?”
Most of us recycle the pull tabs from our pop,
beer and soup cans without knowing what they could do. Now, we all know how easy it is to collect these tabs, and are glad
to do so knowing that something so small can go a long way towards bringing happiness to someone in need.
Whether you ride, drive or walk, your pull tabs
can be dropped off at the Mohawk Inn (Highway 401 and Guelph Line) from now until the event date of May 29. 2011.
The Pop Tab Run in conjunction with “ Pop
Tabs for Wheelchairs” truly is a “feel good” event!

and charity starts at home!!!

promotes motorcycle activities for our members, the majority of whom reside in the surrounding communities, We currently have
